3D Visualizations with Shelby L. Smith

Shelby L. Smith, our talented CIM Manager, delivered an outstanding keynote presentation at Autodesk University this past week. She captivated the audience with insights into the City of Charleston’s Low Battery seawall project, for which JMT provided design services. She discussed the initial goal of raising the wall from 8 feet to 9.5 feet. However, during the design phase, the US Army Corps of Engineers conducted an independent study, concluding that the wall needed to be elevated to 13 feet. With careful analysis, we successfully adapted the structure and implemented micropiles for additional reinforcement, allowing the original wall to remain intact.
Shelby also highlighted the incorporation of stormwater filtration systems, ensuring clean water flows into the harbor and river. Beyond addressing sea level rise, the project aimed to create community spaces, with parklets at intersections serving as welcoming front porches for residents.
By leveraging cloud-based systems, such as BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs, our team enhances communication and design coordination, regardless of distance!
