The first CMAA Baltimore Project of the Year Award for JMT – The BWI North Fuel Farm project was established to significantly increase fuel storage capacity for airlines under the Baltimore Fuels consortium. Upon completion, the facility’s capacity increased from roughly 1.1 million to 2.5 million gallons of fuel. The project features two 705,600-gallon above-ground Jet-A storage tanks with internal sump pumps, cathodic protection, tank gauging, and overfill alarms, as well as additional loading pumps to serve fueling transfers throughout the facility. A fuel containment area and a self-expanding fire-fighting foam (SEFFF) fire suppression system surround the new tanks. Existing facility equipment was upgraded to allow for automated controls. A SCADA system with a central monitoring station was implemented for monitoring and controlling fuel operations. The existing waterline around the fuel farm was enhanced as an additional means of fire suppression. The project held a $22.8 million construction value.

This $32 million project at Martin State Airport north of Baltimore supported the Maryland Air National Guard and general aviation tenants. Phased work included nightly runway closures for six months and a 21-day runway shutdown for repaving. Major improvements consisted of partial mill/overlay and asphalt overlay on the runway; remarking the runway width from 180 feet to 150 feet wide with two 15-foot shoulders; geometric improvements to Taxiway A/T; removal of Taxiways B, S, and D; and reconfiguring Taxiway C to be perpendicular to the runway. Additional tasks involved installing paving fabric, pavement grooving, painting pavement markings, installing a 4,000 LF electrical duct bank underground, and removing and installing airfield lighting and signage.

JMT’s commitment to collaboration, safety, and excellence helped make the Martin State Airport (MTN) – Runway 15-33 Rehabilitation and the North Fuel Farm Additional Fuel Storage projects a success. Congratulations to the JMT team members who worked on these projects for their well-deserved recognition from CMAA!
